Products I use

Welcome to my first blog post! I thought it would be fitting for me to first share the products I use at home. I love to mix up different brands and use the skincare that is most fitting for my skin type (duh). That being said I have a few rules I always follow:

  1. ALWAYS try and get a sample of a product before buying it, most skin care stores/beauty counters will give them out and sometimes even make samples if they don't have any in stock.
  2. Only buy products online if I know they work well for your skin.
  3. If you're having problems with your skin and think it's time for a change- visit your esthetician. When I am getting a facial I will always take any recommendations given as they are able to get the best look at your skin and are very knowledgeable on the products they use and sell.

Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleaner

First is my daily cleanser, I have used Mario cleansers for years and this has always been my fave. Not only that, all my friends and family are hooked on this product. It's a very mind gel cleanser that foams up when lathered (I love that because it makes me feel squeaky clean) but is also great for those with an occasional breakout. I use this in the morning so I don't use it to remove makeup, but this does remove makeup if you're using it for that purpose.

Lotion Yon-Ka PS Dry or sensitive skin, dehydrated skin

I am a big fan of toner. If you don't use one or are unfamiliar, a toner (sometimes called a lotion) is a liquid product you usually spray or pour on a cotton round to balance your skins pH after cleansing and remove any excess cleanser before moisturizing. This toner from Yon-ka (an amazing brand from Paris, France) comes in a glass spray bottle and is a beautiful pink color. This product is specifically for dry skin and is very hydrating but since it's nothing more than a liquid great for those with oily, dehydrated skin. Even with my very dry and dehydrated Colorado skin I could skip moisturizer and not shrivel up after using this. Added bonus: it smells like a high end spa, who doesn't love that?!

Image Ageless Pure Hyaluronic Filler

As if I haven't said it enough I have the driest skin. One product that I love to recommend to everyone is a hyaluronic acid. A lot of brands carry one but I am currently using one from Image. Hyaluronic acid binds moisture to the skin as well as creates fullness. You apply this after a toner and before any moisturizer. It is almost the consistency of a gel and does not feel heavy which is important when layering so many products. (When on the lookout for a hyaluronic acid look for minimum ingredients).

Image Vital C Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum

I use a serum (almost) daily. Sometimes when I'm feeling like giving my face a break I skip it which is one of the reasons I love using a basic moisturizer with a serum underneath to get the added anti-aging benefits. This one smells ah-ma-zing (like oranges). It's very light and fresh, important when layering multiple products! I purchase this directly from my esthetician but you can find it on amazon and at a lot of online stores. A simple google will locate a nearby store carrying the product for you to sample.

Image Vital C Hydrating Eye Recovery Gel

My daily eye cream comes from the same line as my serum, Vital C from Image. It's very light weight and fresh smelling and since it is a gel it's great to put in the fridge and apply cold to help with puffiness. This eye gel is definitely on the list of something I can't live without. I have horrible dark circles under my eyes and am in the beginning stages of getting fine lines so a nice anti-aging gel is great for that. On the other end of that since it is a gel it needs to be layered (see avocado eye cream below).

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment

On top of the day and night eye cream I use the creamy avocado eye cream from Kiehl's. This truly is creamy and very hydrating. Although it is very creamy it's still great for layering under makeup because after applying for a moment (with your ring fingers) it turns into a lighter silk consistency, perfect for layering. Under eyes can never be too hydrated!

Panthenol Protein Moisturizing Face Cream- DISCONTINUED

I have been using this moisturizer for years. This basic moisturizer lacks fragrance which I prefer having sensitive skin. It makes my skin feel silky smooth without feeling too heavy even when layered with all my other products. It keeps my feeling hydrated throughout the entire day. The panthenol moisturizer does not have an SPF so be sure you're adding that afterwards!

*This product has just been discontinued (sad), currently on the hunt for something to replace it

Image Prevention + Daily Hydrating Moisturizer SPF 30

This is definitely the most important part of my skincare routine. I layer this SPF 30 on top of my moisturizer before I apply makeup. I never used to use a daily SPF until I learned the amount of damage the sun does to your skin and that the sun is responsible for 90% of our skin's aging process. This moisturizer can be used without another moisturizer underneath but it is so light and feels nothing like an SPF I layer it right on top. There is a matte version for those with more oily skin.

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil

You will notice the rest of the products listed I use at night only. This is not a must but once you begin to indulge in skincare you will want to do what's best for your skin and sometimes it's not always pretty (best for when it's dark). I use the Shu Uemura cleansing oil as my cleanser and I'm IN LOVE. This is a heavier oil that removes all makeup and makes your skin feel baby soft- Shu carries cleaners for all skin types. You apply it to your face as an oil with dry hands and massage it into your skin, eyes (gently) and lips to remove any makeup- yes including liner and mascara. Then you add water to your hands and continue to massage, this is going to make the oil emulsify. Then you rinse it off and like I said, baby soft skin. In the cooler months I like to remove the cleanser with a cotton round leaving more oil on my skin for hydration. You can also use this product as an oil with a cotton round simply as a makeup remover. It does it all! (This product is no longer sold in the U.S.A. but can be found online, they will send samples)

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye

Nightly I use the midnight recovery eye cream that comes from the same line as the next product on my list. This eye cream works wonders for my dark circles. It is a very light cream so it isn't very hydrating, The ingredient butcher's broom in this eye cream improves microcirculation and reduces inflammation which everyone can use. I like to layer the avocado eye cream above on top of this. Keep in mind, wrinkles are more apparent in someone with dry skin so keep those under eyes hydrated!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

The Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a lightweight oil that leaves you with very smooth skin come the morning. This is a restorative product that works with our skin's natural process at night.. Because it's so light I like to put m normal moisturizer on top of this for extra hydration. This is another product that I recommend to all my friends and family regardless of their skin type and it is a total fave!

That's all friends! Please click the product to visit the product's web page for pricing and more information. If you have any further questions about any of the products visit my home page and leave a question.
